Delicious Dog Recipes For the Summer

August 9, 2018

Woof! Woof! Who is it? You already know who it is. It is Rufus Woofman, your friendly neighborhood retriever. Anyway, as a summer-loving dog, I refuse to stop writing blog posts about the summer until the summer is over. While vacationing or going to the beach can be very fun, sometimes the best retreat from a hectic week at work is merely a relaxing evening or weekend. And no summer relaxation is complete without a nice cold treat. Take it from me, there’s nothing like kicking back next to some quality AC, and watching some Animal Planet with one of these delicious doggie treats. You might even want to try one yourself. Without further ado, here are five recipes for tasty, relatively healthy summer treats for dogs.

Peanut Butter and Banana Ice Drops:

-1 cup peanut butter

-1 banana

-1/4 cup water

  1. Line sheet of pan with wax paper

  2. Mash banana and combine with peanut butter in small bowl

  3. Mix in water (this will help w/freezing consistency)

  4. Spoon mixture onto tray in drops and freeze overnight

  5. Once frozen, store the treats in a bag or container in the freezer

It’s hard to go wrong with peanut butter and banana. It’s a combo made from doggie heaven.

Strawberry Coconut Milk Ice Cream:

-28 ounces coconut milk

-3/4 cup strawberries, washed and dried

-1/4 cup honey

-1 tablespoon cinnamon

  1. Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth

  2. Transfer mixture to a freezer-safe container

  3. Cover and freeze for several hours, so it can have the smooth consistency of ice cream

Just seeing this recipe is making me hungry. If I ever feel the urge to chase rodents, I remember how much better strawberry coconut milk ice cream is, and… well I’m still hungry.

Sweet Potato Buns

-1 medium sweet potato

-1 tablespoon olive oil

-1 tablespoon rosemary

1.Cut potato into 1/4-inch (2/3 cm) thick slices; toss with oil and rosemary.

2.Place slices on grill and close lid.

3.Cook about 8 minutes per side, until tender

4.Place sliders on buns and let cool before serving

A tasty treat for humans and dogs alike! If I need to load up on carbohydrates after a long time in the dog park, these sweet potato rolls will largely do the trick.
